eCommerce website design for Domus

Domus is an Armenian-founded store chain that sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances, and home accessories, among other goods and home services.
Proposal was to design a website that will handle all the online buying experiences for the user. Let the user compare products, see their availability, and order them by choosing the delivery and payment method they would like.

Problem

Customers couldn't order Domus products online or see the availability of products before visiting the store.

My role

For the entire design process, I did UX research, wireframing, and creating a design system. I collaborated with product managers and developers.

Kick off - User research

In our case, the target group was Domus's customers who sometimes during the calls with customer support, asked if they have a website or if they can somehow see their products online.

For conducting the interview smoothly, we prepared a questionnaire in advance, as for such qualitative research it's needed. After conducting the interviews, we tried to analyze and find the most common problems, thoughts, and ideas of people.

Defining problems

- Users want to make online payment
- See availability of products at stores
- Compare products and see the differences between them
- Have a smooth and easy registration
- Have options of delivery and pick-up

User persona

Based on patterns from my user insights I developed the user persona - a fashion designer.

Site map

With inspiration from other competitor websites and card sorting exercises, I created a site map to define the overall structure of the website. This was meant to ensure that the users will easily navigate through the website.

User flows

After defining the “bigger picture” of the experience I needed to provide the users, I created a user flow for the user. The point of this was to define the intended steps the user might take through various pages and actions on the website in order to complete their goal.

Sketching

Once I organized all my insights from the exploration phase, I began to design the website. To start this process I began to sketch several of the site’s main screens, using my user flows as a guide. This allowed me to quickly explore several concepts for the website layout. I then tested this with 3 participants to validate whether these solutions addressed both the user and business needs.

Wireframes

Based on the feedback and personal insights I learned from the sketching phase, I began to design my first wireframes using Figma. I made sure to prioritize the features that would best address the needs of the users throughout the website.

UI kit

After having full picture of the wireframes, started to define the UI kit.

Final designs

After having the UI kit set up, started designing the UI part based on the flows and key features that we had for the problems.
